Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Friday the US was responsible for the series of recent leaks on the investigation into the Manchester bombing that killed 22 people. Tillerson's remarks come amid amid growing anger among British leaders over the leaks.
"We take full responsibility for that and we obviously regret that that happened," Tillerson said after a lunch meeting with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson at the British diplomat’s London residence.
This special relationship that exists between our two countries will certainly withstand this particular unfortunate event.
In a televised address Thursday, May said she planned to "make clear" to Trump that "intelligence that is shared between our law enforcement agencies must remain secure."
A majority of the developments from the Manchester investigation were reported on by US media outlets, citing US officials.
British officials also noted that a New York Times report that included graphic photos from the crime scene was especially upsetting, because it could jeopardize an ongoing investigation.
