A senior at Harvard University submitted a rap album for his dissertation and will be graduating with an A-, the BBC reported.
Twenty-year-old Obasi Shaw called his 10-track album "Liminal Minds." The work combines elements of Middle-English poetry (inspired by Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales") and elements of rap that address racial issues in America.
Shaw's dissertation is the first of its kind in Harvard's history.

Shaw wasn't required to write a dissertation, but it was necessary if he wanted to graduate with honors.
Shaw says he got the idea from his mom, who had noticed her son had been writing rap music to perform at open-mic nights on campus.
And while Obasi says he'd like to get the album professionally mixed, he'll be plenty busy interning as a software engineer at Google later this year.
Shaw made his album available for free on Soundcloud.
