House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) has said that if a memo in which former FBI Director James Comey details President Trump's request for the FBI to drop an investigation exists, his committee is ready to subpoena for it, CNN reported.
Chaffetz later sent a letter to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe asking for all information about Comey's meetings and communications with Trump.
Chaffetz tweeted out that his "subpoena pen" was ready.
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) got behind Chaffetz's push, with spokesperson AshLee Strong saying, "We need to have all the facts, and it is appropriate for the House Oversight Committee to request this memo."
Trump reportedly asked the former FBI director to drop his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn one day after Trump fired Flynn, according to a memo written by Comey that detailed the discussion.
Some online are wary of Chaffetz's willingness in requesting the memo.
Why is Chaffetz so interested to see Comeys memo instead of looking for the leaker? The memo is classified, the leaker is a criminal.— Trumpism 3.0™ (@Team_Trump45) May 17, 2017
Others think Chaffetz should direct his attention elsewhere.
