Katy Perry has signed on to be one of the new judges on "American Idol" when the show returns to in the fall, this time on ABC.

"I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the 'American Idol' tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories," Perry said in a statement.

"I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough -- from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music."

When the show was on Fox, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson held judges' positions. Perry is the first new addition to be announced.

Ryan Seacrest, who hosted the show when it was on Fox, said on "Live with Kelly & Ryan" that he is open continue hosting the show.

“I had said at the end of the series, ‘Goodbye for now,’ hoping somewhere it would come back,” Seacrest said on "Live," according to People.

If he returns to the competition, Seacrest would be flying coast to coast each week to film both shows.

"American Idol" helped launch the careers of stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson. Hudson and Clarkson have signed on to be coaches on Season 14 of "The Voice," CNN reports. That means they, along with Cowell, will not be returning for the reboot.
