Are we doing this again? I guess we're doing this again.
As far as conspiracy theories go, the ones surrounding punk princess Avril Lavigne are surprisingly resilient. Rumors surrounding her potential death and subsequent replacement by a lookalike have circulated for a few years.
And now, thanks to Twitter, they are back again.
At least @givenchyass is up front about the conspiracy. We guess?
This Hollywood loonery starts with a Twitter user named Givenchyass, who started a thread detailing how Lavigne had hanged herself in the early 2000s and had been replaced by a body double named Vandella.
“She was born in ontario, canada in 1984 and her first album 'let go' was released in 2002 when she was 18. Up until this point she was so used to being able to live a normal life and now that she was famous, she couldn't handle the paparazzi so she decided to hire a look alike to walk around LA for her and pose for the paparazzi," wrote Givenchyass.
Lavigne allegedly even taught Vandella how to sing like her so as the complete the illusion.
Then, around the release of her second album, Lavigne's grandfather passed away, leading the "Complicated" singer to lock herself away in her room for weeks, avoiding speaking to anyone else. Eventually, she hanged herself due to depression. Her body was then discovered by employees from her record company.
Evidence for the theory is a little all over the place, with segments of the internet trying to point out hints in Lavigne's lyrics, clothing, and even her freckles. That's right. The internet is convinced that the freckles on the singer's arm changed patterns.
And of course, other sections of the internet have begun making jokes and memes on the subject.
