An inmate being treated at an Illinois hospital grabbed an officer's weapon and took an employee hostage, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lt. Pat Gengler noted that no injuries have been reported yet.
He clarified that the hostage situation is confined to one room in the downstairs area of the hospital and the facility remains on lockdown.
The inmate has yet to be identified. It remains unclear what the inmate was being treated for and what charges the individual was facing.
Gengler said the Kane County jail has a limited medical facility so those seeking additional medical care are sent to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
The sheriff's office SWAT team, crisis negotiators and crisis response teams are on site.
