A K9 officer that took a bullet for his partner is expected to make a full recovery

UPDATE: Casper is expected to make a full recovery.

CBS12 reports that K9 officer Casper was shot while on duty May 12th in Jupiter, Florida. 

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred right after 5:30 p.m. Friday. Investigators tell CBS12 this shooting is connected to the early morning armed robbery at a bar and grill.  The suspect, according to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, had many outstanding out-of-state warrants in North Carolina prior to coming to Florida.

We are investigating an officer involved shooting in Jupiter involving the suspect in the robbery and officer shooting this morning.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said in a news conference that deputies were able to locate the suspect from the early morning shooting after the stolen vehicle was identified in the Jupiter area, and through using strategic "investigative techniques."

The sheriff said deputies saw and chased the suspect before he crashed the vehicle.

 Gunfire was exchanged between deputies and the suspect.

That's when PBSO K-9 Officer Kasper took a bullet in the gunfire that was meant for his partner. K-9 Officer Kasper is in surgery and is expected to survive.

The suspect was killed in the gunfire.
