In an exclusive interview with NBC's Lester Holt , President Donald Trump said he asked former FBI Director James Comey if he was under investigation for alleged ties to Russia, reports NBC News.
"I said, if it's possible would you let me know, 'Am I under investigation?' He said, 'You are not under investigation'," said the president during the interview.
Trump also reiterated his stance that he had planned on firing Comey even before Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's recommendation.

"He's a showboat, he's grandstander, the FBI has been in turmoil," Trump said of Comey. "You know that, I know that. Everybody knows that. You take a look at the FBI a year ago, it was in virtual turmoil, less than a year ago. It hasn't recovered from that."
Trump also maintained that he never once asked the former FBI director to drop the investigation into the alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
