Beachgoers in Cali experienced something much worse than 'Jaws': 15 great whites lurking

Imagine spending a relaxing day at the beach -- soaking up the rays while paddleboarding-- and then being notified over a helicopter loudspeaker that you're actually swimming near 15 great white sharks.

For those in the waters off Capistrano Beach in Orange County, that was both a reality and a nightmare.

WATCH | Swimmers were notified that 15 great white sharks lurked nearby.

Beachgoers were advised to "exit the water in a calm manner" because the "sharks [were] as close as the surf line."

The sighting of great whites wasn't unique to the Orange County area, though. Fifty miles north, the Long Beach Fire Department issued a shark advisory on Wednesday warning patrons to enter the beach "at their own risk."
