WATCH | Authorities provide an update on the Arkansas standoff.
Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said a deputy responded to a domestic disturbance when he initiated a traffic stop, thinking the vehicle had information on the suspect connected to the emergency call.
During the course of the traffic stop, Sadler said he was fatally wounded.
Authorities are urging the public to refrain from going near the area.
"Safety first. Obviously, these types of situations are very volatile. There's someone with a gun who's agitated... Don't go past police. They've got the area pretty well locked down," a spokeswoman for the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management said.
