United Airlines put a French woman on a flight to San Francisco instead of Paris

United Airlines has apologized to a French woman trying to fly to Paris after allowing her to board a flight to San Francisco instead, USA Today reported.

Lucie Bahetoukilae, who doesn't speak any English, was allowed to get in line for a flight to San Francisco after the airline made a last-minute gate change. Bahetoukilae's family said the gate change announcement wasn't made in French and she wasn't notified by email, so she boarded the plane.

According to Bahetoukilae, a flight attendant checked her ticket, and instead of having her deplane, found her an empty seat.

After landing in San Francisco, she had an 11-hour layover before she was placed on a flight to her intended destination.

United Airlines release a statement on the matter, saying to Business Insider, "We deeply apologize to Ms. Bahetoukilae for this unacceptable experience."
