Canceled Spirit Airlines flights led to chaos and arrests in Florida

Canceled Spirit Airlines flights led to chaos and arrests in Florida

A number of airline customers were arrested Monday after they began protesting Spirit Airlines over the cancellation of 11 flights in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the New York Daily News reported.

A group of travelers were reportedly on their way to graduation. When the flights were grounded, they began yelling and pounding on the Spirit counter. Security stepped in to calm down those involved, but they could do little to quell their tempers.

The three passengers arrested have been identified as 22-year-old Desmond Waul; 24-year-old Janice Waul; and 22-year-old Davante Garrett.

The cancellations happened in part because of negotiations between Spirit Airlines and the Airlines Pilots Association.

Spirit spokesman Paul Berry said in a statement that a lawsuit was filed in federal court against the union for "unlawful job action by the company's pilots."

Spirit claims that pilots won't fly in protest of the negotiations.

The incident hasn't exactly endeared Spirit to those on social media.
