WATCH | The IMAX Virtual Reality Experience Centre is redefining entertainment.
The flagship location opened in Los Angeles in January. Open to the public, it allows people to try virtual reality without having to purchase equipment through various "experiences."
There are seven experiences in total, with more to arrive in the future.
The titles range from more casual works like "Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine" and "Rabbids VR Ride" (suitable for beginners) to more intense ones like "John Wick Chronicles" and "Raw Data ." The experiences cost $7-$10 and last about 10 to 15 minutes.
The experiences are played in any of the 14 different pods, each customized with its own equipment, including HTC Vive or StarVR components. These pods are 12x12 cubicles that allow for a full range of motion.
The Los Angeles location is one of five trial centers planned to be launched in the U.S., U.K., and China. If all goes well and the centers prove to be successful, IMAX hopes to then expand its spaces into theaters and multiplexes across the globe.
