Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles and French toast have been recalled over fears of listeria contamination, Pinnacle Foods Inc. announced late Friday.
Pinnacle Foods Inc. issued the voluntary recall after testing showed the presence of listeria monocytogenes at a production plant.
"Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the Food and Drug Administration's website.
Healthy individuals may only suffer from short-term symptoms such as a high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The FDA noted that this recall affects frozen products distributed in the United States and Mexico, but does not include any Aunt Jemima dry mixes and syrups.
"The products are being recalled as a precautionary measure given the health and safety of our consumers is our top priority," Pinnacle Foods said in a statement. The company also noted that at this time, no illnesses have been reported.
