Hundreds of roads and vital waterways closed after historic flooding in central US

WATCH:  Video of the devastating flooding in more than a dozen locations in the US.

Nine deaths have been blamed on flooding in Missouri and much of the central US, while hundreds of people have been displaced and thousands more remain in harm's way.

Storms and heavy rainfall that began over the weekend triggered flooding that's forced the closure of hundreds of roads in Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois and shut down a major waterway.

 An 18-month-old Arkansas girl is missing after being swept away by floodwaters and is presumed dead.

Record flooding has been observed in 14 locations. Some locations in southern Missouri shattered record crests that had stood for over 100 years. This map shows a still of a flash flood warning from the Weather Channel.

Twitter footage shows a before and after of a Walmart parking lot hit by flooding.

Photos shared to Twitter appear to show a levee breached in Arkansas.

Rain will come to a stop overnight in the worst flooded areas in Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois overnight and across the Ohio River Valley by late Saturday, according to The Weather Channel.
