WATCH | The World Video Game Hall of Fame just inducted its newest class of titles to join the ranks of the most influential games of all time.
The hall was founded in 2015 by The Strong Museum to recognize how video games have influenced culture and society today.
Out of 12 honorees that were announced earlier in April, only four made it in this year.
Donkey Kong (1981)
This arcade game was marked a breaking point for Nintendo. The platformer started the legendary career of Shigeru Miyamoto and introduced Mario to the world.
Street Fighter II (1991)
The Street Fighter series is perhaps the most well-known chain of fighting games to date. This game sparked a movement and popularized the genre.
Pokémon Red and Green (1996)
The most popular role-playing game of all time was inspired by creator Satoshi Tajari's love of bugs. It has expanded to over 700 creatures spread among multiple generations.
Halo: Combat Evolved (2001)
Halo revamped the first-person shooter genre and became the flagship series of the newly-introduced Xbox.
These titles all still have major influence to this day.
WATCH | Three out of the four titles even have a strong competitive scene. As time goes on, the influence of gaming on popular culture will only grow.
