President Trump signed a spending bill to avert a government shutdown

UPDATE 8:24 p.m. EST:

After approved by Congress, President Trump signed a stopgap spending bill Friday night intended to avert a government shutdown, the Hill reported. The bill buys lawmakers more time to reach bipartisan agreement on a more resolute spending bill that would carry through the end of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.

UPDATE April 28th, 12:12 p.m.: The Senate voted for a short-term spending bill.

The House of Representatives voted early Friday to avert a government shutdown with a one-week spending bill.

It will fund the government through May 5th.

The Senate is expected to vote Friday afternoon on the same measure.
