WATCH | 17-year-old Hannah Sedore was stoked about her junior prom, but a jaw surgery scheduled two days before threatened to keep her home. Students and teachers at Cardinal High School in Eldon, Iowa stepped in to throw a prom just for her.

Freshman Taylor Franklin, who became friends with Hannah while riding the bus, came up with the idea. Taylor told KTVO News that she approached Hannah's special ed instructor Stephanie Maggio and asked, "Why don't we have just a prom for her?"

Taylor, the teacher and the rest of the Cardinal community rallied to throw Hannah her own prom. In secret, they planned for three weeks. To keep Hannah in the dark, they called the event a "dress up day."

Organizers filled the gym with balloons and made a make-shift dance floor. The party started with one of Hannah's favorite Justin Bieber songs. The students of Cardinal High danced the afternoon away in the gym.

Hannah's first dance was with Superintendent Joel Pederson. A line of boys formed to follow him.

Students like this one went the extra mile to ensure Hannah got the prom she had hoped for. Maggio told the Ottumwa Courier, “Hannah is the light of our school."
