New England Patriots star Tom Brady announced in a statement will not join his team's White House visit today, citing "personal family matters."
Here's Brady's statement.
Tom Brady's mother, Galynn, attended just one game this season, the Super Bowl, due to illness. She is currently in Boston.— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) April 19, 2017
Brady did not specify what the family matter was, but his mother has been ill.
This news comes on the heels of Brady's former teammate Aaron Hernandez committing suicide in prison while serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder.
Brady is known to be a friend of President Trump.
He also skipped a White House visit under President Obama, citing scheduling conflicts. He attended three other White House visits under President George W. Bush.
