A professor who tweeted 'To save American democracy, Trump must hang' will go on leave

A California State University Fresno history professor tweeted "To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better. #TheResistance #DeathToFascism," linking to an anti-Trump image.

Lars Maischak only had 29 followers, but word got out, and he's taken leave for a semester as a result. our partner at KMPH reports.

His since-deleted tweet was posted Feb. 18, but controversy flared up after Breitbart reported on it April 8. Maischak has since deleted his Twitter account.

Maischak apologized for the tweet and other inflammatory tweets in an apology in The Fresno Bee.
