Alex Jones, head of Infowars and Prison Planet, is known for presenting conspiracy theories, often with intense bluster.
But his lawyer said in a recent custody hearing that Jones is a "performance artist" who is merely "playing a character." Randall Wilhite said citing Jones' work with Infowars to judge his ability to parent would be like judging Jack Nicholson's character for his work as the Joker, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
He's not a stable person. He says he wants to break Alec Baldwin's neck. He wants J-Lo to get raped.
His ex-wife Kelly Jones disagrees, insisting that Alex is unstable. She seeks custody of her 14-year-old son and 9- and 12-year old daughters.
She also accused Alex of threatening a member of Congress, which is a felony. Alex had targeted Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) in a lengthy anti-gay rant.
This case is not about InfoWars, and I don't want it to be about InfoWars.
Judge Orlinda Naranjo insisted she wasn't concerned about Alex Jones' public persona.
Jones and his site's stories have repeatedly captured the ear of President Trump before and after the campaign, including the idea that Hillary Clinton was extremely sick (she wasn't) or that millions of undocumented immigrants illegally voted for her (there's no evidence).
WATCH | Jones recently apologized for his role in spreading the "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory.
