UPDATE April 18, 10:07 a.m. EST:
TMZ reports the reason for Carmelo Anthony's separation from his wife La La is that a dancer is having his baby. The site claims the woman is more than six months pregnant and expects the NBA star to chip in for medical expenses.
ORIGINAL STORY: New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony and his wife La La have separated after seven years of marriage, according to TMZ.
La La, 37, reportedly moved out of the family's home and into her own place in New York City.
The couple's split is said to amicable and there are no plans for a divorce at this time.
The split comes during an already stressful time for 32-year-old Carmelo Anthony, who has been the subject of trade rumors for months.
“We’ve not been able to win with him on the court at this time," team president Phil Jackson told reporters last week. "I think the direction with our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talents somewhere where he can win or chase that championship."
Here's how Carmelo Anthony responded.
The couple's romance began in 2004 and they married six years later, according to the New York Daily News. The wedding was documented on the VH1 reality show "La La's Full Court Wedding," which was so successful that a five-season series called "La La's Full Court Life" followed it.
