This Oregon jail turned film museum was used in the 'Goonies'

Watch| You may be surprised to know that over 400 movies were filmed in Oregon, movies like “Animal House”, “Free Willy”, “Stand by Me”, and many TV shows.  Even the "Goonies".

There’s even a museum dedicated to the rich history of moviemaking in the state, located in Astoria, Oregon. The Oregon Film Museum has a plethora of "Goonies" memorabilia. The movie was filmed in Astoria. In fact, the old Clatsop County Jail building was used in the movie and is now the museum. But the "Goonies" isn't the only movie.

The biggest thing that I hear all the time is, I didn't know so many movies had been filmed in Oregon.
McAndrew Burns, Film Museum executive director

Classics such as “Animal House”, “Free Willy” and  “Stand by Me” were also filmed in the Beaver State.

“One of the great things about Oregon is that it can be any place,” says Burns. “We can be Georgia. We can be a South Pacific island. We can be the mountains, we can be river, we can be ocean, and Oregonians love being on film.”

Burns, wants visitors to learn what happens behind the scenes. You can even make your own movie on three different sets and you will even be emailed a copy of your feature film.

“We’re entertainment and education. We’re ‘edutainment,’ and if we can do both of those things at the same time, that’s great - mission accomplished,” Burns said.
