A 7-year-old with alopecia dazzled her school's crazy hair day because 'bald is beautiful'

As the old adage goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

That's exactly what seven-year-old Gianessa did in preparation for her school's crazy hair day, affiliate KUTV reported. After Gianessa was diagnosed with alopecia, an auto-immune disease that causes all hair to fall out, Daniella Wride, Gianessa's mother, chose to embrace her daughter's uniqueness.

“You have two choices," Wride said. "You can either be sad about it and be miserable, or you can make it into something fun and enjoy it."

So after Gianessa informed her mother that she wanted to participate in her school's annual "Crazy Hair Day," Wride took a quick to Walmart to purchase dazzling stickers and flowers.

The gems were placed all over Gianessa's head. Her school friends remained in awe of the dazzling stickers.

"When I walked in, everyone was crowding me about the jewels,” Gianessa said.

In fact, Gianessa said that she enjoyed it so much that she said she wants to keep, and add, designs to her head. She and her mom hope that their story will encourage other kids with alopecia to rock their individuality.

“You have to teach your kids, life isn’t fair, you have to be able to adapt and change and make it your own,” Daniella Wride said. “Whatever you’re going through, even if it it’s tough, if you have alopecia, still be confident, be yourself, and bald is beautiful.”
