Twitter wants you to experience Twitter regardless of how good your internet connection is.
The company announced "Twitter Lite" early Thursday, touting its reduced data usage, quicker load times and tiny size, taking up less than 1 MB of space on a phone or tablet.
The move was targeted toward emerging markets like Latin America, Asia and Africa. Twitter's announcement mentioned that 45 percent of mobile connections are still on 2G networks, even as the world braces for 5G.

Twitter Lite also includes a data saver mode for those running up against their monthly caps. The feature shows previews of photos and videos before fully loading them. Twitter claims this uses 70 percent less data.
Some analysts went so far as to say Twitter created Lite "for India."
But others suggested Twitter needed to rethink its priorities.
