Abubakar Shekau says he still leads Boko Haram, exposing the biggest rift yet among Nigeria’s Islamic insurgents and possibly paving the way for a break from the Islamic State group. A dog attacked a suicide bomber in Nigeria. He saved many lives.

Officials said that a dog at a Nigerian wedding party wrestled with a suicide bomber until her explosives detonated, killing the animal as well, according to the Associated Press.

Buba Ahmed of Belbelo Village reported that guests are grateful that the dog sacrificed itself to save their lives.

Ahmed said the teenage bomber was on the outskirts of a gathering where many villagers were attending a wedding ceremony. The dog pounced on her on Sunday morning.

Police spokesman Victor Isuku confirmed on Wednesday that the dog had intervened to save the wedding party.

Nigeria has become a hotspot for terrorist organizations, like Boko Haram. In April 2014, the group drew international condemnation after kidnapping more than 200 girls from a boarding school in Chibok. Since, the group released 21 of the girls after a series of negotiations with the Nigerian government, according to CNN.

The group recently began recruiting female suicide bombers holding babies to avoid suspicion and detection, the BBC reported.
