Gonzaga and North Carolina will face off in the NCAA title game after winning nail-biters

North Carolina and Gonzaga both entered the NCAA men's basketball tournament as top seeds. Yet they both won their Final Four matchups by four points or less.

Gonzaga toppled seventh-seeded South Carolina 77-73 Saturday night. It marked both schools' first Final Four appearance, and Gonzaga star Nigel Williams-Goss dropped 23 points in the win.

North Carolina eked out a 77-76 victory over 3-seed Oregon after senior power forward Kennedy Meeks snagged a crucial rebound after a missed free throw.

Gonzaga's victory also came down to a missed free throw. South Carolina's Sindarius Thornwell was fouled with 3.5 seconds on the clock when the score was 75-72. He made the first free throw but intentionally missed the second to set up a rebound for his teammates. Instead, Gonzaga's Killian Tillie grabbed it and sank his final two free throws to seal the victory.

Here's the crucial last few seconds of the game.

Clearly, the team was ecstatic.

Gonzaga had a history of losing in important games. They seemed to shed that last night.

Data-centric site FiveThirtyEight gave Gonzaga better odds to win on Monday.

The title game will tip off Monday at 9 p.m.  While Gonzaga is new to the title game, North Carolina has won six championships and lost in the title game last year after Villanova won with a buzzer-beater.
