Putin botched a famous US presidential quote in denying Russian election hacks

In an interview aired Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin was asked directly if Russia had interfered in the U.S. election.

His response, translated from Russian, was "Ronald Reagan once, debating about taxes and addressing Americans, said 'Watch my lips. No.'"

But Ronald Reagan isn't the one who made that line famous. Putin seemed to be referencing the famous quote "Read my lips. No new taxes" uttered by then-candidate George H.W. Bush at the Republican National Convention in 1988.

Here's the clip.

In the interview, Putin also said the U.S.'s anti-Russian rhetoric was based on "lies" and was merely a political weapon, CNBC reports.

Putin also said he was ready to meet U.S. President Trump at a possible summit on the Arctic in Finland.

He also denied the existence of human-caused climate change.
