Turkey crash (LaPorte County Sheriff's Office)

A wild turkey crashed through a car's windshield. Someone took it home for dinner.

John Tarabocchia was driving home with his family when he saw several wild turkeys crossing the road in Indiana.

Suddenly, a 25-pound wild turkey took flight and crashed halfway through his windshield Tuesday morning, our partner at WSBT reports. He wasn't hurt, but law enforcement said he and his three passengers were lucky to be alive.

"I'd say God was with him this morning," LaPorte County Police Officer Ken Etchison said. The turkey died on impact.

Here's a look at how far the turkey went in.

Here's another look.

This is the largest [turkey] I've seen actually getting hit by a vehicle. This is pretty incredible.

Bob Smigielski witnessed the crash. He said he thought the bird would bounce off the windshield and was shocked to see it had gotten stuck in the glass. He later received permission to take the bird home and cook it.

The LaPorte County sheriff told ABC7 Chicago these incidents are rare, but turkey's mating season mean the birds are out and about more often.
