Newly-elected DNC chair Tom Perez asked for the resignation of all party staffers

Newly-elected Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez has requested the resignation from all current staffers, signaling a major overhaul of the party's structure under a new leader, according to NBC News. In a letter, the DNC an adviser to outgoing DNC Chair Donna Brazile asked employees to submit their resignation by April 15.

According to DNC spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa, the recent purge isn't anything that hasn't been done in the past.

"This is longstanding precedent at the DNC and has happened during multiple Chair transitions," she said. "The process was started before the election of the new Chair. From the beginning, Tom has been adamant that we structure the DNC for future campaigns. Current and future DNC staff will be integral to that effort. Over the last few months, the DNC staff has done incredible work under immense pressure to hold Trump accountable."

Perez's transition committee is reportedly interviewing staff and others as a top-to-bottom review to not only decide who should stay and who should go but also how the party should be structured in the future.
