Blue Star Families, a national, nonprofit network by and for military families from all ranks and services, held its 3rd Annual Blue Star Neighbors celebration for neighbors who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide assistance for the betterment of servicemen and women.
The organization held a nationwide search for their 2017 Blue Star Neighbor Award.
Recipients Judy and Ken Osborne of Fort Campbell, Tennessee were honored for their generosity toward their military neighbors.
Celebrity chefs and military chefs teamed up to cater the event.
This past year, when military spouse Ashley Burnett was faced with caring for a toddler and a new baby, dealing with medical complications following childbirth, and preparing for her soldier-spouse to deploy overseas for most of the coming year, the Osbornes were there.
They stayed with the children when she went on job interviews, ran to the pharmacy when the son needed medicine for his hand, food, and mouth disease, stayed with the children when she got a job and they were home sick and had the family over for dinner during the week and on holidays.
"They come to my house regularly. We see them regularly. They need help they call us. It’s just a wonderful set up," Judy Osborne said.
