WATCH| Dr. Yaser Harawi spends his days helping migrants who are passing through Belgrade, Serbia. Dr. Harawi was born in Syria, but has lived in Serbia for over 30 years.
Dr. Harawi is the middle child in a family of seven children. His father paved the way for his education in medicine and sent him to Serbia for medical school.
While traveling in Serbia for work during the 1950s, Dr. Harawi's father had a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors in Serbia saved his father's life after finding a gallbladder blockage. According to Dr. Harawi, his father vowed to send his son to medical school in Serbia as a way thank Serbia and its people.
Dr. Harawi was reluctant to remain in Serbia after his schooling, but his father insisted. Now, Dr. Harawi sees that his greater purpose was meant to help serve the migrants passing through Serbia.
