"The Matrix" hit theaters in 1999. That means, by Hollywood's rules, it's due for a reboot.
The sci-fi classic is in the early stages of a reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's still a long way, but Michael B. Jordan is reportedly interested in starring.
The Wachowski sisters who wrote and directed the original trilogy are not involved at this time. Their opinion of any new movies will mean a lot to fans, given the original's massive popularity.

MATRIX REBOOT MUST MAKE NEO A WOMAN, THANK YOU. AND LEAVE TRINITY A WOMAN. LESBIAN MATRIX ONLY.— INVISIGOTH (@spacecrone) March 15, 2017
Others supported a reboot, but only with a "Ghostbusters"-style gender swap.
Could we make the Matrix reboot a genderswap one? Starring Viola Davis as Morpheus, Tina Fey as agent Smith & Tatiana Maslany as Neo, thanks— L'étagère (@Letagere) March 15, 2017
