The Azure Window was a stunning rock arch in the Sea of Malta that has been seen by millions as a backdrop in "Game of Thrones."
But on Wednesday, it collapsed in a storm. No one was injured.
Geologist Petter Gatt said the limestone pillar that supported the arch gave way after years of erosion. The arch had been unstable for years, prompting the government to impose $2,300 fines on anyone caught walking across it. It had also been featured in the 1981 movie "Clash of the Titans."
Here's how the arch looks after its collapse.
Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted this tribute.
In case it doesn't look familiar, here's the arch as seen on the show.
Speaking of "Game of Thrones," author George R.R. Martin wrote Monday that his dream guest star would be former President Obama. So far, Obama hasn't responded to his request.
Martin also said that he wanted to appear in the TV series as a severed head, but "turns out those severed heads are expensive to make."
