Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said Americans may have to make hard financial choices under the Republican Party's planned replacement for the Affordable Care Act.
Specifically, he said they may have to choose between getting a new phone and paying for health care.
"Rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love ... maybe they should invest in their own health care," Chaffetz said.
Here's the interview clip.
He was almost immediately roasted for the comment on social media.
for my monthly premiums, I could buy 25 IPhones a year, assuming 700$ per phone. Chaffetz needs a clue or 70.— Yeah. Notsomuch. (@Cycle4) March 7, 2017
Some said Chaffetz didn't understand the economic realities of health care.
