Days after Hunter Biden, one of Vice President Joe Biden's sons, announced that he is dating the widow of his late brother, Beau Biden, divorce filings from his previous marriage to Kathleen Biden cite accusations of financial abuse, drug use and infidelity, according to The News Journal.
Kathleen's complaint on Dec. 9 also alleges that her soon-to-be ex-husband hasn't provided for the family after they formally split in October 2015--five months after Beau died of brain cancer. In late 2016, Hunter reportedly ordered his office to cut Kathleen's $17,000-a-month payment to $7,500, the complaint revealed.
Property records show that the couple owns a six-bedroom home in DC valued at roughly $1.6 million.
According to a Feb. 23 motion filed by Kathleen, Hunter, over the course of their separation, drained hundreds of thousands of dollars from the couple's marital assets by "spending extravagantly on his own interests (including drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs and gifts for women with whom he has sexual relations), while leaving the family with no funds to pay legitimate bills."
The motion asked the court to stop Hunter from further "dissipation" of the assets.
Hunter's attorneys have yet to respond to the motion, though the next court hearing is scheduled for March 30.
Kathleen's attorney couldn't be reached for comment, but Hunter's attorney, Sara Mancinelli, declined to comment on the allegations featured in the divorce filings.
"Hunter loves and admires Kathleen as a person, a mother, and a friend," Mancinelli wrote in an email to The News Journal. "He hopes their privacy can be respected at this time."
Kathleen also petitioned the court for sole custody of their youngest daughter with "reasonable visitation" by their father. Hunter, however, asked for joint custody, saying "he has always played an active and engaged role in the care and upbringing" of Maisy.
