More than half of Americans surveyed think the media is too hard on Trump


More than half of Americans surveyed think the news media is covering President Trump too harshly, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll  released Sunday.

All told, 51 percent of those surveyed think the media has been too critical, while 41 percent say the media has been fair and just six percent say it hasn't been harsh enough.

Roughly 53 percent believe the news media has exaggerated problems in the administration, while 45 percent disagree.

Of those who called Fox News their primary news source, 79 percent said the media was exaggerating. Among those who called MSNBC their primary source, 40 percent agreed. 

I think his views about the press being fake news is horrible and I think it is a fascist viewpoint.

Other highlights from the poll:

  • 51 percent of those surveyed said the nation is "on the wrong track"
  • 57 percent said Tump was doing about as well as they expected. 19 percent said he was doing better, with 24 saying he was doing worse
  • 60 percent said they were "mainly hopeful and optimistic" about the future of the U.S.
  • 41 percent expected the economy to get better in the next year
