Watch Parliament debate President Trump's visit live.
After a petition to ban President Trump from an official state visit in the United Kingdom got more than 1.8 million signatures, the nation's Parliament took up the topic for debate on Monday.
Any official petition to Parliament that gets more than 100,000 signatures must be debated. A signature supporting the visit got 312,000 signatures and is also being discussed.
We didn't do this for Truman. We didn't do this for Reagan. But for this man, we say, 'please come and we will lay on everything.'
The debate was full of insults directed at Trump. MP Paul Flynn called Trump's intellectual capacity "protozoan," referring to a single-celled organism, and said he had acted like a "petulant child."
Others argued Trump's visit was simply too early.
The visit had been originally scheduled for June. Whenever it happens, activists say Trump will be met with the biggest anti-racism protest in British history.
House of Commons speaker John Bercow faces controversy for saying he would reject any motion to have Trump address Parliament. He is facing a motion of no confidence from other members of Parliament.
