These disabled dogs couldn't find a home until one rescue organization saw their potential

Today is National Love Your Pet Day, a day we're using to also remember all the pets that have been abandoned and left unloved at shelters.  One organization, A Purposeful Rescue, focuses on animals that are overlooked, often because they're disabled. Watch a rescue transformation.

This little Shih Tzu earned the name Fast Edwina because she's speedy even though her back legs are paralyzed.  She got a medical makeover at the premier pet therapy spot in L.A., Two Hands Four Paws. In addition to underwater treadmill work, she got acupuncture and a new pink wheelchair.

Coconut needed surgery

This is Coconut.  He was left in medical at the South L.A. shelter because he refused to eat and wouldn't open his mouth. The vet at A Purposeful Rescue found out why.  Coconut needed surgery to remove badly infected teeth and fix a broken jaw.

adopt or help

Coconut needs a few weeks to recover from his surgery, but Fast Edwina is ready now. If you are interested in adopting or learning more about how you can help, visit www.apurposefulrescue.org.

Fast Edwina at Shelter

National #LoveYourPetDay is a day to give your pet a longer walk and extra kisses, but also to help those pets who've been left behind because their owners have moved on. Visit your local shelter to help.
