Russell Simmons, co-founder of the legendary hip-hop label Def Jam Records, headlined a rally in Times Square dubbed "I am a Muslim Too" on Sunday, aimed at expressing solidarity with Muslims in response to President Trump's controversial travel ban.
"I love doing this work," Simmons told NBC News. "It's purposeful. It makes me happy." He held a similar rally six years ago after Rep. Peter King (R-NY) held hearings to root out Muslim extremists.
Here's a live look at the rally.
Times Square was quickly filled up.
Chelsea Clinton brought her daughter Charlotte along.
The rally wasn't exclusive to Muslims.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also joined.
Women's March organizers also made an appearance.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo posted this in solidarity.
Critics found the protest misinformed.
