WATCH | Who is Stephen Miller?
Did you watch the Sunday political shows this weekend? If so, you watched Stephen Miller, Donald Trump's policy guru and Senior White House Advisor, defend the first three weeks of the Trump presidency.
So how did a 31-year-old California native end up all over your Sunday morning TV screens?
Well the Duke grad got his start working for former Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-MN). His career really took off however when he became then Sen. Jeff Sessions’ Communications Director-- in case you live under a rock, Sessions is now Attorney General.
During the campaign Sessions was the first Senator to endorse Trump due to their similar views on immigration. And when it came to Sessions and immigration, Miller was the driving force behind promoting Sessions' hard line against illegal immigration.
In January of 2016, weeks before Sessions endorsed Trump, Miller moved over to the Trump campaign and began crafting the candidate’s speeches. The then candidate liked Miller and trusted him so much that allowed him to warm up the crowds at Trump's rallies-- a sign of how similar their views are.
And those views especially on trade and immigration, which ran outside of the typical Republican policies, help lead Trump to surprisingly win the election.
Miller's biggest influence so far though has been Trump's immigration pause. Miller reportedly was one of the driving forces behind the contentious executive order, which is currently being fought over in the courts. But, the controversy didn't stop Trump from sending Miller out to defend his administration last Sunday. So get used to seeing Miller's face a lot more with Trump in the Oval Office.
