WATCH | When I met up with Louboutina and her human, César Fernández-Chávez, we were constantly interrupted by fans who recognized the hugging golden retriever. Louboutina, or Loubie, first began giving out hugs a few years ago and has made quite the name for herself since then.
"It's the hugging dog!" shouted one passerby, and a crowd began to gather. Everyone wanted to get a hug from the Instagram-famous dog.
Loubie, firmly attached to Fernández-Chávez's legs, seemed to enjoy the attention. "She knows that people are taking pictures of her," he said, and right on cue, Loubie looked directly at my camera and smiled.
Selfies were in high demand, as people bent down next to Loubie to try to coax her into a hug. She was usually more than happy to oblige.
Fernández-Chávez never trained Loubie to give hugs. She simply taught herself.
People can't help but fall in love with the nice doggo upon meeting her.
Fernández-Chávez often walks from his home to his office with Loubie, a short distance that should only take a few minutes to cover. But thanks to her recent Instagram fame, it can take the pair over an hour to make the trip.
New Yorkers are very, very serious about these hugs.
Getting a hug from Loubie can instantly put a smile on someone's face. She is doing very important work in New York City. "Some people have told me that they think she should run for president," joked Fernández-Chávez.
