There's a popular pizza joint in Kaliningrad, Russia that's named after an unlikely political figure - former president Barack Obama. 'Obama Pizza' opened it's doors in 2013 and cleverly adopted the slogan 'Yes We Eat'.
The owners decided to name the place 'Obama Pizza' because the word sounded funny.
This word sounds funny and it was very popular in 2013 when they opened this cafe and they decided to use this word.
Nikita, the chef at Obama Pizza, explained the reasoning behind the name.
It may seem odd, the Russian storefronts with Cyrillic signs broken up by the name of an American president, and let’s be honest, it is.
After all, a picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin hangs proudly on the restaurant wall; then again, so does an image of James Dean. A peek at the menu and the pizza names runs a confusing range from Freedom to Texas to Pearl Harbor.
Locals say there’s a running joke these days in Russia: If anything is wrong, “just blame Obama.” Though, there’s nothing wrong with this food. So, will the signs soon be replaced now that Obama has been? Nikita confirmed "No plans."
When asked about our newly inaugurated president Nikita replied "As our President Putin told, that he’s a bright personality, we’ll see. We have no idea about him."
