WATCH | Tennis Channel revisits a wild week of unforced errors on and off the court, thanks to gaffes by Canadian stars Denis Shapovalov and Eugenie Bouchard. (Full disclosure: Tennis Channel is owned by Circa's parent company, Sinclair Broadcast Group.)
Confident the Atlanta Falcons would win Super Bowl LI after they built a big lead Sunday, Bouchard agreed to go on a date with a Twitter user if the New England Patriots found a way to come back and win (which, of course, they did).
After her losing wager became a Twitter Moment, Bouchard asserted the date still is on.
In an apparent accident, Shapovalov lost his temper and hit a ball into an umpire's eye.
In addition to his team's Davis Cup match disqualification, Shapovalov was fined $7,000.
Between Denis Shapovalov's ball hitting umpire default & Genie Bouchard betting herself into a date, not the best Sunday for Canadian tennis— Andrew Jerell Jones (@sluggahjells) February 6, 2017
Overall, Sunday's antics were a rough look for Canadian tennis, as one journalist noted.
