Trump said he respects Putin and the US is not 'so innocent' in a Fox News interview

President Trump said he "respects" Russian President Vladimir Putin and said the U.S. was on similar moral ground as Russia in a Fox News interview set to air before the Super Bowl.

During the interview, Bill O'Reilly said, "Putin's a killer."

"There are a lot of killers. Got a lot of killers. What, do you think our country's so innocent?" Trump responded.

The full interview will air at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday.

Here's a clip of the interview.

Conservatives, including a Wall Street journal editor, were stunned by the comparison.

Some took issue with the interview, though Trump did not refute O'Reilly's claim.

Trump's praise of Putin has drawn criticism since early on in the campaign.

Putin has come to Trump's defense since his election, claiming the Obama administration was trying to undermine Trump by spreading allegations of his ties to Russia. Former CIA Director John Brennan said Trump didn't "fully understand" the Russian threat, and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) has called Russia a "global menace" led by a "menacing man."

National security advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn is reportedly under investigation for calls to Russia.
