Betsy DeVos just got that much closer to becoming the new Secretary of Education

More on the vote

A procedural vote to confirm Betsy DeVos' nomination for Secretary of Education passed Friday morning with a 52-48 vote from the Senate, ending the debate over whether or not she'd be in the clear for a final vote.

The final vote is scheduled to take place on Monday, as many GOP lawmakers are heading to Florida this weekend for a fundraising event, according to The Hill.

DeVos has been under fire since her nomination over her positions on public and charter schools. She lost support from two Republicans Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.  Both senators did vote to advance her nomination.  A final vote is expected next week.
