"I've been wanting to do this a long time," Aoki told Circa moments before his collection made its American fashion-week debut. "This is a dream."
He said his fashion line launched in America as a soft-launch pop-up shop in L.A.
In lieu of traditional models, skateboarders wore his collection while doing tricks on ramps and platforms. Noted Aoki, "We wanted to do something that was a bit destructive, also very unique, and have the energy of where this all came from."
Aoki also teamed up with artist David Choe to put some finishing touches on the exhibition.
Choe's oil print accents Aoki's favorite collection piece: a jacket he wore on NBC's "Today."
During that"Today" appearance last Friday, Aoki joined One Direction's Louis Tomlinson to perform the band's hit "Just Hold On."
