In his remarks at Rex Tillerson's swearing-in ceremony, a very somber President Trump said that the former ExxonMobil executive's lifework has prepared him for this moment. Vice President Mike Pence lead the oath of office at the White House.

Following the oath, Sec. Tillerson shared a few remarks. He thanked his family, friends and colleagues who have helped him throughout the confirmation process.

But, Tillerson said, it was the outpouring support he received from ordinary Americans that "will really stand in a steadfast reminder to [him]" as he takes on the responsibilities of the nation's top diplomat. 

Tillerson also thanked Trump for the "extraordinary opportunity."
