Video game streamers are getting signed by pro teams and making more money than ever

WATCH | Streamers' popularity is higher than ever before, and professional gaming teams have noticed.

Streamers broadcast video games live to viewers online, primarily through the website Twitch.tv.

Twitch allows streamers to make money in several ways. Advertisements, sponsorships, donations, and viewer subscriptions drive revenue towards the gamers.

Sheila, known by her in-game name "Pterodactylsftw," is one of these gamers who has become highly popular, with over 80k followers on her Twitch page.

Sheila is one of a few select streamers to officially be signed by a professional gaming organization.

Team Dignitas' Michael "ODEE" O'Dell picked her up after watching her stream, and decided that she would be a good partner to represent the organization.

She now promotes the team on her streams, in hopes of bringing her fans to support Team Dignitas.

Being a part of the organization allows her to be on salary, adding revenue alongside that which she receives from Twitch.

Professional gaming, in general, is gradually becoming a larger part of popular culture, but is not limited to competitive play. Streamers have just as much of a presence as competitive gamers, and the most notable streamers are able to make six-figure salaries.
