A Trump supporter said he was punched in the head at an airport protest opposing the President's travel ban while he was just trying to preach.
"I was just preaching ... just engaging in conversation and preaching," Grant Chisolm told our partner at KATU.
Chisolm said he was counter-protesting alongside members of his group, known as "Bible Believers" when he was attacked.
This video shows the clash with protesters. Chisolm appears with about 15 minutes remaining.
They were just all over us, thrashing us. ... Even as I hit the ground they are calling me Nazi and all this crazy stuff.
Chisolm said he was knocked out by the punch and insisted he wasn't egging the protesters on.
"We are the only resistance there is in Portland right now," Chisolm said. "We are there to balance the teeter-totter."
It's always very troubling when they show up. It affects the energy of the crowd.
Cameron Whitten, the protester who recorded the video of Chisolm getting punched, said the protest was "beautiful," but a counter-protester threw a woman to the ground by her hair.
He also said the preacher's message was "about everybody going to hell, super anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim."
Chisolm said he hopes to leave the hospital Tuesday. No one has been arrested yet. The protester who punched Chisolm was reportedly wearing a mask.
